Patio Gardening 2010: Week 3 – Pepper Surprise!
I know I didn’t do a week 2 update last week, but it was a hectic week and there really wasn’t much change from week 1. Our seedlings continued to grow and that was about it.
Well, during week 3, we got a little surprise. The pepper seeds we’d given up on have started to sprout, so it looks like we’ll have peppers after all! So far so good, the only casualty we’ve had is that one little pot of cucumber seedlings that kind of died off after the first week, but we have a ton more so we’ll be fine.
Last weekend we did do some shopping for pots to upgrade our plants to and bought a couple at the dollar store for a reasonable price. A lot of our seedlings are starting to grow their true leaves, so we should be able to start transplanting some of them next weekend into their final pots.

In preparation for the transplanting, we’re putting the plants out on the patio during the day to get them used to being outside, so once we plant them in their final containers it won’t be such a shock for them to be outside. Plus, the weather has actually been nice and warm the past few days.
For anyone who is interested, the boyfriend has started a YouTube channel where he’s documenting the progress of our patio garden week by week. Here’s the video for Week 3:

For those who are new, this year the boyfriend and I are doing a little container gardening experiment where we are trying to grow various herbs and vegetables on our patio. We live in the city of Chicago, so traditional gardening is out of the question. You can subscribe to the RSS feed to instantly receive the posts each week and also check out our previous posts.
