Maple Holistics Tea Tree Oil Shampoo – Review + Free Samples!
Disclaimer: Maple Holistics sent me a free sample of their Tea Tree Oil Shampoo in exchange for my honest review. I did not receive any compensation and this post is not sponsored.
I am very picky about the skin and hair care products I use. As I’ve written about before, I have eczema and other skin sensitivities. One of the problems I deal with is an itchy scalp. I don’t have dandruff, my scalp is just dry and sensitive. So when Maple Holistics contacted me about trying their Tea Tree Oil Shampoo, I was excited to test it out. One of the benefits of the shampoo is soothing an irritated scalp and relieving itch, which is exactly what I need.
My Review
First impressions: this is a nice shampoo. It’s a little thicker than I expected but is easy to apply and massage into my scalp. The scent is very strong and for me mostly smelled like tea tree oil and rosemary. I really like that scent blend, but if you are someone who does not like tea tree oil, this is not going to be your jam. Using it was like aromatherapy in my shower. I left the product on for a couple of minutes as directed and then rinsed it out.
One thing to note, this shampoo is sulfate-free. Sulfate is often irritating for people with sensitive skin, so a lot of natural products and soaps leave it out. This is the ingredient that creates a lather when you use a soap or shampoo. Because there’s no sulfate in the shampoo, it doesn’t lather on your scalp. I prefer products without sulfate because of my sensitive skin.
This lack of sulfate has no effect on the cleansing action of this shampoo. My scalp came out feeling clean, fresh, and moisturized (not itchy). I didn’t experience any tingling or burning, so it’s safe to say my scalp was very happy with this shampoo.
Unfortunately, my scalp and hair don’t always agree. I have naturally curly hair that is very dry. My normal hair routine includes a moisturizing shampoo (used only to wash the scalp), a rinse out conditioner, and a leave-in conditioner. I subbed my normal shampoo with the Tea Tree Oil Shampoo and only used it on my scalp. The result was my hair was drier than usual at my roots and I had to use extra conditioner to counter-act the drying. I think maybe the Maple Holistics Hydrate Shampoo could be a better choice for people with dryer hair like me. My boyfriend (who has “normal” non-dry hair and non-itchy scalp) also tried the Tea Tree Oil Shampoo. He enjoyed the scent and said it wasn’t drying for his scalp or hair, so YMMV based on your hair type.
The Verdict: After using this for a couple shampoos, I think it’s a great natural shampoo option for dry and itchy scalps. Curly folks may need extra moisture with this shampoo depending on your hair type. For me, I think I would use it as a weekly treatment on my scalp and not an everyday shampoo.
