Hot Tub Time Machine Free Screenings Still Available

It’s been about a month since I first posted about the Free Advanced Movie Screenings for Hot Tub Time Machine, but guess what, there are still screenings available! They’re adding new theaters, cities, and dates constantly, so if you haven’t gotten a chance to see John Cussack’s new movie for free, then you should check it out.

Eventful still has tickets available, but if the screening you’re interested in is full, you may want to go check FilmMetro’s site. I went on there this morning and was able to get tickets for one of the Hot Tub Time Machine screenings tonight that was full on eventful.

At this point, there seem to be screenings available up through mid-March.

If this curiously name movie has piqued your attention, you may want to check out the plot description and trailer.

Free Movie Screening: Hot Tub Time Machine

All right, I admit it, I am in love with John Cusack, and the premise of this movie seems pretty epic. So I was excited to see that Eventful is doing tons of free screenings for this movie across the US and Canada.

Hot Tub Time Machine stars the wonderful John Cusack, Lizzy Caplan, Rob Cordry, and more. The plot description, via IMDB: After a night of drinking Red Bull and vodkas, a group of guys travel back in time to when they were younger cads. See. Epic. I’ll include the trailer at the end of this post.

Now how Eventful is doing it, is you can volunteer to host a free screening, or just sign up to attend. A lot of the cities already have hosts, but there still seem to be plenty of passes available.

I would list all the cities, but there’s 50 of them up there now. I don’t know if more cities will be added, but more screenings are being added daily. Check out the list. It’s good to note that some of the cities include other nearby cities. For example, when I clicked on Chicago, it included screenings in Chicago, Evanston, Oak Park, Elmhurst, and Woodridge. So the number of cities is epic. Some of the screenings in the larger cities are full.

To sign up, select a city and click on a screening. It will give you an option to become a host or attend a screening, if slots are still available. Fill out your info, and you’ll receive ticket info via email. Each pass is good for two people.

Now, I don’t know how overbooked these screenings will be, so get there early!

Free Advanced Screening: HBO Movie Temple Grandin

This screening is a little bit different. It’s for the new HBO movie Temple Grandin, which will premiere on HBO on February 6th at 8PM.

The movie stars Claire Daines and Catherine O’Hara.

The plot summary of “Temple Grandin” according to IMDB:

A biopic of Temple Grandin, an autistic woman who has become one of top scientists in humane livestock handling.

This is a great chance to see the movie early, or just see the movie if you don’t have HBO.

The screenings will be Tuesday, February 2nd in the following cities:

  • Atlanta
  • Boston
  • Chicago
  • Dallas
  • Los Angeles
  • New York
  • Philadelphia
  • San Francisco
  • Washington, DC

To sign up for passes, sign up at the website and select the city you want. If you win the free tickets, you’ll receive an email with your ticket and instructions for the screening.

Now, this is an Entertainment Weekly screening, so it should be reasonably easy to get tickets for it, but these screenings are always WAY overbooked. You should probably plan on being there about 2 hours early.

Tickets for free screenings of Crazy Heart are still available in select cities.

And yet, Bad can’t help but reach for salvation with the help of Jean (Maggie Gyllenhaal), a journalist who discovers the real man behind the musician.

This film is already getting a lot of buzz with two Golden Globe nominations, including one for Jeff Bridges and another for Best Original song. I will include the trailer at the bottom of this post.

Cities currently available are:

  • Baltimore
  • Chicago
  • Dallas
  • Houston
  • Oklahoma City
  • Philadelphia
  • Pheonix
  • San Francisco
  • Washington DC

Dozens more cities are supposed to be added through the middle of January, so keep checking back for yours.

This is a Fox Searchlight screening, so it’s the usual drill: select your city and fill out your info. You’ll receive an email, which you should print out and bring with you to the theater since it will be your pass. With the nominations and everything, I expect these screenings will be popular, so make sure to get there early! You don’t want to end up like me, and have the theater fill up.

Websites for Free Advanced Movie Screening Tickets and Passes

You may be wondering, “Tiffany how you find out about all of those free movie screenings you’re always posting about?” Well, curious reader: all over the place. I keep my eyes peeled for these screenings on several different websites on the internet. I figured I should take some time to outline a few of the locations I check out as a resource to my readers, mainly because I do not post every single free screening I find because I try to only post those that will benefit my readers across the United States (and sometimes Canada).

The site I find out about most of the screenings from is Wild About Movies. I absolutely loathe their website (it’s horribly bloated with unnecessary ads, images, videos, and text, and a nightmare to navigate). Lately their free screening listings have become a little more bizarre (perhaps even deceptive). They say that you can RSVP and print tickets for certain movies, but when you get to the page they say the tickets are not available yet, so you can sign up to receive an email when a screening is available in your area. I’ve done that a couple times and never received an email from them, so I think they’re just signing people up for their newsletter.

Sometimes though they do still have legitimate links and passes to print, so I always just wade through all the crap and post the good ones on this site. They’re just a nightmare to deal with sometimes.

Another great source is Entertainment Weekly, though their screenings are less frequent and, as I recently learned, so overbooked you need to be there at least two hours early. They’re usually only available in 10 or so major cities as well. The good thing is that if you sign up, you’re practically guaranteed a pass, the trick is actually getting into the screening before the theater is full.

When it comes to free screenings, Fox Searchlight is my absolute favorite. The studio features the sign up form on their website, which is super easy. Just sign up and they email you the passes. They usually have a ton of different dates and locations across the US & Canada. Also, their movies are usually fantastic. Also, I don’t usually have problems getting into the screenings as long as I’m there an hour to and hour and half before showtime. Unfortunately, if you sign up for their newsletter, they don’t email you about new screenings usually, you have to actually keep checking up on the site for them (though I post all of their screenings on T20S when they’re available).

A site that I don’t use too much is Film Metro. You have to sign up to be a member of the site, and the tickets become available at a specific time. They often “sell out” very quickly, and I’ve never been lucky enough to grab tickets through this site. A friend of mine has had better luck and gotten tickets through them before, so I know it is a legit site. You just have to be on there at the right time to score.

Seems like a lot of work, huh? Well it is. As always, I’ll continue to post national screenings here. So check back often or subscribe to my RSS feed for the latest posts.

Free Movie Screening Bummer: The Theater Was Packed

A few week ago I posted about the free Up in the Air screening Entertainment Weekly was sponsoring. I was looking forward to seeing this movie. The boyfriend and I met up downtown, grabbed some dinner, and then headed over to the theater an hour before the screening, which is the time we usually show up for these things.

When we got there they had already started letting people into the theater (which is unheard of) and there were over a hundred (maybe even 200) people in line. We got in line anyway and were there for about 5 minutes before they announced that the theater was full.

We were actually pretty surprised about all of this. It’s been about three years since I was last turned away from a screening. Still, we hadn’t been there very long and there was no way we could have known that there would be such an immense turn out, so we didn’t feel too bad about it.

Since we didn’t have a back up plan, the boyfriend and I decided to check out 2012 instead, which we enjoyed a lot. (Though I hate paying full price for movie tickets.)

The whole point of this post is that when it comes to these free screenings, sometimes you never know what to expect. If you really want to see the movie, like really want to see it, sometimes you just have to sacrifice the time and get there two hours in advance just to guarantee that you’ll get in. Sometimes though, they’ll barely have the theater filled when it’s time to start the movie.

It’s one of those things that you just can’t predict because it depends on a lot of variable including the popularity of the movie, how may passes were given out, the theater, and other unknown variables. It’s good to have a back up plan so you don’t feel like you wasted your time. Also, go in it with a good sense of humor. It’s a bummer to miss out on a free movie, especially if you waited a long period of time not to get in. But really, all you’ve lost is the time. So make good use of your time in line: read, do homework, talk with friends, whatever. Then shrug it off if you don’t get in and go to plan B.

Free Advanced Movie Screening: Up In The Air

Haha, sorry that this blog is becoming all free screenings all the time, but hopefully you’re all getting in on as many of these as you can. I’m sure there will be less free screenings available once the holidays get into a full swing, so take advantage of free movies while you can!

The latest free screening is for the new movie Up In The Air starring George Clooney, Jason Bateman, and Anna Kendrick.

The plot description via IMDB: With a job that has him traveling around the country firing people, Ryan Bingham leads an empty life out of a suitcase, until his company does the unexpected: ground him. The film has a release date of December 25, 2009.

There will be screenings on December 2nd in the following cities:

  • Atlanta
  • Boston
  • Chicago
  • Dallas
  • Philadelphia
  • Los Angeles
  • Miami
  • New York
  • San Francisco
  • Washington, DC

This is an Entertainment Weekly screening, so it works a little differently than other screenings I’ve featured before. Go to the website, fill out your info and select the city you want. If the screening isn’t booked already, you’ll be sent an e-ticket.

When I signed up for the Chicago screening I got this message: Screenings will be held on Wednesday, December 2nd. Ticket distribution depends on theater capacity. If you receive an email it will be your e-ticket. Please print it out and bring it to the screening. So there you go. Everyone who signs up won’t technically get a pass, but from my experience with Entertainment Weekly screenings, as long as you sign up early then you’ll probably get it.

Free Advanced Movie Screening: Everybody’s Fine

This is such a great month for free movie screenings! Here’s another one, and this one is available in 50 cities across the US. Unfortunately some of the screenings are already full, but some are still open, and if the city you want is full you can sign up to be on the waiting list in case they get a larger theater for the screening.

The movie is Everybody’s Fine starring Robert De Niro, Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale and Sam Rockwell. Plot summary according to IMDB: A widower who realized his only connection to his family was through his wife sets off on an impromptu road trip to reunite with each of his grown children. This looks like a great holiday movie. I’ll include the trailer below.

To RSVP for passes, go to this site and select the city you want. If there are still passes available you can RSVP for your passes, otherwise you can sign up for the waiting list. These screenings are fill up fast, so hurry to get in on them!
