Free Advanced Screening: Weeds & The Big C
I know, I know, it’s been forever since I’ve posted any free screenings. It’s not from laziness, just a lack of decent screenings available across the country. It seems most studios are doing their screenings for through Gofobo and those screening passes are usually gone by the time I find out about them.
But, good old Entertainment Weekly hasn’t changed their ways!
This isn’t a movie screening, but instead an advanced screening for the Season 6 premiere of Weeds and the series premiere of The Big C. I’ll include trailers for each show below. I’m pretty excited about this because the boyfriend and I are huge Weeds fans and are also interested in The Big C.
Since this is an Entertainment Weekly Screening, you have to sign up and if you’re selected you’ll receive an email which is your pass (I’ve always received a pass from them).
The screenings are on Wednesday, August 11th. These are the cities available:
- Atlanta
- Baltimore
- Berkeley
- Cambridge
- Chicago
- Dallas
- Greenwood Village
- Bloomfield
- Houston
- Indianapolis
- Los Angeles
- Milwaukee
- Minneapolis
- New York
- Philadelphia
- San Diego
- San Francisco
- Seattle
- Frontenac
- Washington
This is an Entertainment Weekly screening, so it should be reasonably easy to get tickets for it, but these screenings are always WAY overbooked. You should probably plan on being there about 2 hours early, but since these are TV shows and not movies, it may not be as popular. Use your own disgresion.

Edit 6/18/201 - This deal is back up, so grab it while you can!
I was hoping they’d do this. On Tuesday I posted about the KGB deal for $4 movie tickets at AMC theaters. At that time they only had them available in San Francisco & Philadelphia, but now 5 more cities have been added. This is a great deal and you should jump on it if one of these cities is near you!
Pay only $4 for a movie ticket at AMC theaters (good any day of the week and for any film). These tickets are good up to $12.50 value, and are valid at any AMC, Loews, Cineplex Odeon, Magic Johnson, and Star theatres. This deal is only good through tonight, so buy now!

AMC Movie Tickets for $4 in San Fransisco & Philadelphia
Update: Sorry, this deal is over.
Edit: 5 more cities have been added! This ends on 6/10/10, so buy today!
I know this weeks gardening video isn’t up yet–I’m sorry for that. The boyfriend has gotten sick (and I think I’m coming down with it too now), so when he got home from work last night, it was a “lay on the couch and watch TV” kind of night. Tonight I’ll remind him about the video, and hopefully we’ll get it up.
Since I’m starting to feel under the weather (and the weather outside is pretty dreary too), I just have one short post for you today. This is a nice deal.
I’m always boasting about how a good way to save money is look for cheap ways & deals to go to the movie theater or go to free movie screenings. I’m sure you’ve noticed lately that I haven’t really posted any free movie screenings. That’s because I honestly haven’t heard about any lately, or by the time I hear about them, they’re gone.
It’s a bummer and because of the lack of free screenings (and movies that actually pique our interest) the boyfriend and I haven’t been to the movie theater for a couple months. Our Netflix account has been put to good use though.
This is the kind of deal that would have us going to the theater more. Unfortunately it’s only available in San Francisco & Philadelphia, and it’s only available for the next 3 days.
This is part of KGB Deals, which (from the impression I’m getting) is similar to Groupon, where a deal is offered in specific cities for a limited amount of time or a limited amount of deals.
These tickets are good up to $12.50 value, and are valid at any AMC, Loews, Cineplex Odeon, Magic Johnson, and Star theatres. If you live in San Francisco or Philadelphia, make sure to jump on this. This price may be cheaper than the matinee, and you should be able to use the tickets for any showtime, 7 days a week.
Free Advanced Movie Screening: You Don’t Know Jack
I feel like it’s been a little while since I did one of these free screening posts. Here’s an interesting one.
This screening is for the new HBO movie You Don’t Know Jack: The Life and Deaths of Jack Kevorkian. This is a biopic about doctor-assisted suicide advocate Jack Kevorkian. It will air on HBO on April 24th at 9PM, but you can see it early and for free at one of these screenings.
This is an Entertainment Weekly screening, so you must go to their site to sign up for their free ticket “giveaway” (I don’t think I’ve ever NOT gotten a ticket to one of their free screenings). If you’re chosen you’ll receive your ticket via email, which you’ll print out and bring with you.
The screenings are either on Thursday, April 15, 2010 or Monday, April 19, 2010 depending on the city.
Cities available:
- Atlanta
- Boston
- Chicago
- Dallas
- Los Angeles
- New York
- Philadelphia
- San Francisco
- Washington, DC
Now, this is an Entertainment Weekly screening, so it should be reasonably easy to get tickets for it, but these screenings are always WAY overbooked. You should probably plan on being there about 2 hours early.

Hot Tub Time Machine Free Screenings Still Available
It’s been about a month since I first posted about the Free Advanced Movie Screenings for Hot Tub Time Machine, but guess what, there are still screenings available! They’re adding new theaters, cities, and dates constantly, so if you haven’t gotten a chance to see John Cussack’s new movie for free, then you should check it out.
Eventful still has tickets available, but if the screening you’re interested in is full, you may want to go check FilmMetro’s site. I went on there this morning and was able to get tickets for one of the Hot Tub Time Machine screenings tonight that was full on eventful.
At this point, there seem to be screenings available up through mid-March.
If this curiously name movie has piqued your attention, you may want to check out the plot description and trailer.
Free Movie Screening: Hot Tub Time Machine
All right, I admit it, I am in love with John Cusack, and the premise of this movie seems pretty epic. So I was excited to see that Eventful is doing tons of free screenings for this movie across the US and Canada.
Hot Tub Time Machine stars the wonderful John Cusack, Lizzy Caplan, Rob Cordry, and more. The plot description, via IMDB: After a night of drinking Red Bull and vodkas, a group of guys travel back in time to when they were younger cads. See. Epic. I’ll include the trailer at the end of this post.
Now how Eventful is doing it, is you can volunteer to host a free screening, or just sign up to attend. A lot of the cities already have hosts, but there still seem to be plenty of passes available.
I would list all the cities, but there’s 50 of them up there now. I don’t know if more cities will be added, but more screenings are being added daily. Check out the list. It’s good to note that some of the cities include other nearby cities. For example, when I clicked on Chicago, it included screenings in Chicago, Evanston, Oak Park, Elmhurst, and Woodridge. So the number of cities is epic. Some of the screenings in the larger cities are full.
To sign up, select a city and click on a screening. It will give you an option to become a host or attend a screening, if slots are still available. Fill out your info, and you’ll receive ticket info via email. Each pass is good for two people.
Now, I don’t know how overbooked these screenings will be, so get there early!

This screening is a little bit different. It’s for the new HBO movie Temple Grandin, which will premiere on HBO on February 6th at 8PM.
The movie stars Claire Daines and Catherine O’Hara.
The plot summary of “Temple Grandin” according to IMDB:
A biopic of Temple Grandin, an autistic woman who has become one of top scientists in humane livestock handling.
This is a great chance to see the movie early, or just see the movie if you don’t have HBO.
The screenings will be Tuesday, February 2nd in the following cities:
- Atlanta
- Boston
- Chicago
- Dallas
- Los Angeles
- New York
- Philadelphia
- San Francisco
- Washington, DC
To sign up for passes, sign up at the website and select the city you want. If you win the free tickets, you’ll receive an email with your ticket and instructions for the screening.
Now, this is an Entertainment Weekly screening, so it should be reasonably easy to get tickets for it, but these screenings are always WAY overbooked. You should probably plan on being there about 2 hours early.

And yet, Bad can’t help but reach for salvation with the help of Jean (Maggie Gyllenhaal), a journalist who discovers the real man behind the musician.
