Recipe: Leftover Thanksgiving Turkey Lo Mein
I know almost everybody is drowning in turkey leftovers right now and looking for creative ways beyond reheated turkey and sandwiches to use the meat.
Well, the boyfriend and I had a some leftover turkey we brought home from the family’s gathering, so we decided to get a little creative with it and add it to a simple lo mien recipe I’d discovered recently.
The original recipe (which came in the Home Made Simple coupon book) was for beef lo mien, but I’ve modified it a bit–in addition to changing the meat to turkey–to fit our tastes. It was easy to make and absolutely delicious, so give it a try. You can also use this recipe with any other meat you want, or even no meat.

We added some leftover yams on the side and had a bowl of miso soup (from mix) as well.
Leftover Turkey Lo Mein
Ingredients
- 3 Tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 Tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 Tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1/4 Teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 4 Cups cooked spaghetti
- 2 Teaspoons sesame oil
- 2 Tablespoons peanut oil (we used canola oil)
- 4 Minced garlic cloves
- 3 Cups broccoli florets
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1 lb turkey, cut in strips (we just eyeballed the amount)
- Green onions to garnish (optional)
Instructions
1. In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, brown sugar, oyster sauce, and red pepper flakes. Set aside.
2. Combine the pasta and sesame oil in a bowl. Toss until well coated.
3. In a large skillet over medium-high height, saute the garlic, broccoli, and onion for 5 minutes in your chosen oil (peanut, canola, or other). Add the turkey and saute for 5 more minutes, or until cooked through.
4. Add the pasta and sauce mixture to the skillet and cook 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.
5. Garnish with green onions and serve.
Happy Thanksgiving!
To all of my US readers, I’d like to wish you a happy Thanksgiving.
I’ll be busy with friends and family today and perhaps the next few days, so posting may be light, or non-existent.
Just be careful if you’re going out to battle the sales, and make sure to think about what you’re thankful for, because that is the whole point of this holiday.
Join Vocal Point and Get Coupons and Freebies in the Mail
I posted about this briefly yesterday, but I wanted to share what I got in the mail last night after I posted. Yep, it was another awesome surprise from Vocalpoint.
Just to recap, I joined Vocalpoint a few months ago after I saw some other bloggers raving about it. At first I was like “what’s the big deal?” and then I started getting the mail. Awesome samples came my way, like Secret Deoderant. Then I received two $3 off a box of Kashi (which equaled free cereal) plus a ton of $1.50 coupons. A little later I got $2 off any Pantene Shampoo or Conditioner, plus five $1 coupons.
I always get tons of coupons and awesome surprises from them, so I was delighted to see that yesterday I not only received coupons for Del Monte’s new SunFresh and Orchard Select fruit, but also a rubber jar opener, (which is something we greatly need in this house, I always end up putting on rubber kitchen gloves to try and open a jar).

The coupons included one Buy One, Get One Free, and five $1 off coupons. I can’t wait for a good sale to take advantage of a good deal with these coupons.
So, if you’re interested in getting fun surprises like this, make sure to sign-up for Vocalpoint. That’s all you have to do and then all the samples and coupons show up in your mail box. It almost seems silly not to sign up.
Samples, Freebies, & Coupons 11-23-09
I love Thanksgiving week. It’s great because it’s a short work (or school) week, and there’s lots of delicious food on the horizon. Since I’m not traveling out of town this year, I’ll get to relax, eat a lot, enjoy the company of friends, and work on my novel.
I’m not into Black Friday shopping, though I know many other people like to snag the deals on that day. Black Friday Ads.com has all the ads for the Black Friday deals. Also, Mash Up Mom has a post where she’s collecting all the best deals, so check that out as well.
Before everybody gets distracted by all of the food and festivities, lets get some freebies and deals, shall we?

Make Money Online: Instant Cash Sweepstakes UPDATE
All right everyone, the first time I posted about Instant Cash Sweepstakes I’d only been a member of the site for about two weeks, and I wasn’t particularly impressed with it at the time. Since I’d only had limited experience with the site, I promised to give it more time and then come back with an update. Well, here it is.
Honestly, I stopped visiting Instant Cash Sweepstakes for the most part a week or so afterward. I racked up coins and lottery tickets, but never earned anymore money. I started to feel like maybe this is was the kind of site where you could only earn money if you convince a lot of people to sign up via your referral link (yes that link above is a referral link). At this point I have no referrals, which isn’t surprising, because I haven’t exactly given the site the most outstanding reviews. With all of the other survey sites and money making sites out there, I could earn actual money, not just sweepstakes entries, in the time I was wasting filling out those little surveys.
So what changes have I noticed since my last visit about two months ago? Not much. The coin store is still sparsely populated with ten high priced items (including that bizarre box of Splenda, which costs more than the 8gb jump drive). Apparently at the beginning of the month they decided to change their sweepstakes format, instead of one big prize each week, they’re doing a daily prize of $50, and if your referral wins it, you win it too.
What are my earnings at this point? Well, I’m still stuck at 75 cents. I have 389 coins, and 154 tickets for the lottery drawing today. Keep in mind I haven’t used the site for like a month and a half, but still, not impressive.
So overall, I think I’m mostly done with Instant Cash Sweepstakes. I think I’ll probably still check in from time to time just to see what’s going on and if they’ve done anything new. They still call themselves “beta” and seem to incorporate the ideas of the users, so it’s possible they’ll transform into a great site yet. I’ll keep you updated if they do, but for now I have other things I’d like to spend my time on.
Free Advanced Movie Screening: Up In The Air
Haha, sorry that this blog is becoming all free screenings all the time, but hopefully you’re all getting in on as many of these as you can. I’m sure there will be less free screenings available once the holidays get into a full swing, so take advantage of free movies while you can!
The latest free screening is for the new movie Up In The Air starring George Clooney, Jason Bateman, and Anna Kendrick.
The plot description via IMDB: With a job that has him traveling around the country firing people, Ryan Bingham leads an empty life out of a suitcase, until his company does the unexpected: ground him. The film has a release date of December 25, 2009.
There will be screenings on December 2nd in the following cities:
- Atlanta
- Boston
- Chicago
- Dallas
- Philadelphia
- Los Angeles
- Miami
- New York
- San Francisco
- Washington, DC
This is an Entertainment Weekly screening, so it works a little differently than other screenings I’ve featured before. Go to the website, fill out your info and select the city you want. If the screening isn’t booked already, you’ll be sent an e-ticket.
When I signed up for the Chicago screening I got this message: Screenings will be held on Wednesday, December 2nd. Ticket distribution depends on theater capacity. If you receive an email it will be your e-ticket. Please print it out and bring it to the screening. So there you go. Everyone who signs up won’t technically get a pass, but from my experience with Entertainment Weekly screenings, as long as you sign up early then you’ll probably get it.

Free Advanced Movie Screening: Everybody’s Fine
This is such a great month for free movie screenings! Here’s another one, and this one is available in 50 cities across the US. Unfortunately some of the screenings are already full, but some are still open, and if the city you want is full you can sign up to be on the waiting list in case they get a larger theater for the screening.
The movie is Everybody’s Fine starring Robert De Niro, Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale and Sam Rockwell. Plot summary according to IMDB: A widower who realized his only connection to his family was through his wife sets off on an impromptu road trip to reunite with each of his grown children. This looks like a great holiday movie. I’ll include the trailer below.
To RSVP for passes, go to this site and select the city you want. If there are still passes available you can RSVP for your passes, otherwise you can sign up for the waiting list. These screenings are fill up fast, so hurry to get in on them!

This is another Fox Searchlight screening, so it’s pretty simple. Go to the site and select the city you want. Fill out the information and you’ll be sent an email, which you’ll print out and take with you to the theater.
